Electronic Toll Payments In Car Rentals

Man how I hate to wait in line at tool booths.  What a waste of time.  That’s why in my personal car I have an EZ Pass for New York.

But, it’s just not feasible to get the equivalent of an EZ Pass for every location your travel for business.  Or is it?

Car rental agencies are making it easier to use electronic toll payment systems.  Here’s how:

Dollar ThriftyPass24

Dollar Thrifty’s prepaid Pass24 is available in all major metropolitan areas where  the company is located.  Cost is all inclusive $8.95/day.

Avis and Budget

eToll options were added last year for Colorado, Florida, and Puerto Rico.  Previously they already had options for Houston, Chicago, and all the Northeastern states.  That’s pretty good coverage.  The cost to utilize is any toll charges incurred plus a $1.50 a daily fee.

Plug-and-Play Bluetooth Headset Car Kit

Hertz PlatePass

Hertz PlatePass system covers Houston, NYC, Atlantic City, New Jersey, Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.  The cost is $2.50 per day up to a maximum of $10 per week plus tolls.  You only have to pay the $2.50 per day if you actually use a toll road.
